The Mayan Look

The daily clothing for Mayan women was the same as many other village people’s clothing. Women wore head cloths to shade themselves from the burning sun. They wore plain white clothing. For two decades animal patterns were very popular. A fancy, white apron that covers the skirt were traditional wedding clothing for women. Women often tattooed the upper part of their body. They wore their hair parted and worn in a plain braid.

Men wore the same plain white cotton clothing that the women did. A nobleman’s clothing was usually embroidered with very bright colors. The men also burned their hair to form a bald spot. They traditionally wore their hair long because short hair was the sign of a criminal.
